Pioneers Of Legacy

I graduated in 1994, the year Christ College (as it was then known) completed its silver anniversary and it is wonderful to see how the institution has thrived to complete a brilliant half century!

Looking back over these last 25 years, life as a Christite brings forth a flood of happy memories. Some of the elements that stood out for me include the outstanding leadership of Fr. Anthony Kariyil, ( Our Principal back then), and Fr. Thomas C Mathew, (who was the Bursar or head of finance and Vice Principal, and who later served as the Vice Chancellor of Christ University), the excellent and committed faculty members - many of whom continue at Christ to this day; the airy classrooms and excellent infrastructure including a wonderful ‘green’ campus, and, of course, the friendships that I made and the fun I managed to have!

In the late-80s and early 90s, the institution certainly didn’t have the sterling reputation for excellence it enjoys today. Its credentials have been built painstakingly, step by step. It is remarkable to see how CHRIST has emerged as one of the country’s top-ranking institutions.

I believe the visionary zeal of the Management and Staff have been solely responsible for the institution’s stature today. Leaders like Fr. Kariyil and Fr. Mathew had the determination to single-mindedly take what were then seen as unpopular decisions (especially in areas like student discipline and decorum). Their pioneering approach reiterates the notion that it takes great guts to create a lasting legacy.

During my time there, the chance to represent the Christ Western Music team, AICUF, the choir, the cricket team and the NCC contingent were among some of my most treasured opportunities. Besides the faculty, I owe a great debt to my classmates as well as the many friends and acquaintances that I was fortunate to have. Their unique and interesting life-stories helped me gain exposure to varied perspectives and shape my own identity’. I will be eternally grateful to CHRIST for these precious memories.
