You would have experienced or heard about kids being bullied in the classroom, school bus or somewhere in a gang. This can happen anywhere at any time. But as things evolved, a new trend also developed with a new generation. Cyber bullying is when people use the internet and other technology as a platform to threaten or intimidate the victim.
In this global village of today, everything is just one touch away. Children use social media and this means cyber bullying can happen very easily. It's never fun to be bullied. The internet can bring out passive-aggressive behaviour even in the most introverted person. Cyberbullying occurs in different ways like sharing or sending negative information about an individual for causing humiliation. Hateful comments on social media platform is one of the major ways in which people are now targeted.
Fake identities, web pages etc. are also a part of cyberbullying. Keeping this in mind, the present content of our country- triggering religious, political, ethnic or colour-based criticism- will make way for a person to be a victim of bullying.
With increasing availability of affordable data services, thanks to India's successful business tycoon, and pressure of social media platforms, cyberbullying has witnessed a tremendous rise.
Many examples can be put in light. The ABVP incident which shook the whole nation can be an example of such a case. The woman is still facing death threats from random people from the group. Women may generally be more prone than men in this case.
